Skate Boarder – taken at London’s Southbank. I didn’t have a lot of time for setup as I was with friends. I was using a shutter speed of 1/200 and ISO 200 so I just switched the Nikon D7200 to Continuous High Speed mode and followed the action as this guy took off.
When I looked through the sequence in Lightroom I found this image and I was able to recover lots of detail in the shadows while still keeping some detail in the highlights – you take your luck where you get it!
This area has been used as a skate park for as long as I can remember – at least 40 years. Years ago I was skateboarding here and I heard a very young couple walking past say “oh darling, these young things certainly know how to play don’t they”. Little did they know I was close on 30 years old.
I’ve just switched from a D5100 to the D7200 and still getting up to speed with it. What a great camera.
I was using the Nikon AF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 lens which I use almost all the time – a wonderful lens in my opinion. Not a fast lens but with street photography high ISO settings aren’t an issue for me and I like a zoom lens – no fixed 35mm for me!
